Obtaining Out-of-State Items Through ILL

NSLS has a contract with Cooperative Computer Services (CCS) to fill interlibrary loan (ILL) and photocopy requests for member libraries without access to OCLC. Members must use whatever sources available at their libraries to fill ILL requests and requests for items located within the state of Illinois.

Type or legibly print request on a standard ALA interlibrary loan form. Requests may be faxed, sent by NSLS van delivery or U.S. postal service to CCS.

CCS uses OCLC to borrow items and forwards items to the requesting library.

Upon finishing, library will return item directly to the lending library. Notification that material has been returned must be faxed to CCS. NSLS libraries will be charged $10.00 for each photocopy request.

General Information

NSLS members must use every source available at their libraries to fill ILL requests located within Illinois through sources such as ILLINET Online. Libraries accessing OCLC are expected to acquire ILL items from out-of-state libraries only after exhausting all local means.

NSLS has contracted with the Cooperative Computer Services (CCS) to fill out-of-state interlibrary loan and photocopy requests for member libraries without access to OCLC.

Keeping Interlibrary Loan Paperwork

The Illinois State Library advises three years for photo copies and more discretionary for books, etc. The CONTU guidelines require the three years plus current for photocopies: ....." 4. The requesting entity shall maintain records of all requests made by it for copies or phonorecords of any materials to which these guidelines apply and shall maintain records of the fulfillment of such requests, which records shall be retained until the end of the third complete calendar year after the end of the calendar year in which the respective request shall have been made."
