Members Turn Out To Welcome Anne Craig Nearly 100 people turned out on August 26 for NSLS's welcome reception for new State Library Director Anne Craig. After introductory remarks from NSLS Director Sarah Long, Craig was warmly greeted by her fellow library workers from throughout the System. In her remarks, Craig spoke of the importance of and her support for library systems. Superheroes: Powered by Books Waukegan Public Library Director Richard Lee (in Superman costume) and Waukegan Mayor Richard Hyde (in Batman costume). Mayor Hyde chose to be Batman because they shot scenes of the Batmobile racing up and down the Amstutz Expressway after dark in Waukegan for the new Batman movie. The photo was a promo for the summer reading club Superheroes: Powered by Books. ![]() Grant "The Chicago Botanic Garden has received a $170,614 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Washington, D.C., to catalog its rare book library. The two-year grant will support a rare book cataloger and assistant. Leora Siegel, manager of the Chicago Botanic Garden Library, estimates about 3,500 titles will be cataloged." For more info, read full press release. Reading Nancy J. Heggem, Palatine Public Library District trustee and NSLS Board Member will be performing a reading at the October 6 Falling in Love reading at Chicago Cultural Center at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Traveling Exhibit Indian Trails Public Library will be hosting a traveling exhibit from the National Atomic Museum, which recognizes contributions made by Hispanic scientists and engineers, and provides role models to students and celebrates the wide diversity within the Hispanic community.
