Donation Received

The Waukegan Public Library received a check for $15,920 from the estate of Hildur West Wallin. The library was named as a recipient of one of her U.S. $10,000 Series EE Savings Bonds. The check amount represented the value of the bond on the redemption date this past March. This generous gift will be used to help fund the library's new branch next year.

Sponsorship

Wheeling's Sam's Club is proud to be the latest in a growing list of sponsors for a bookmobile through the Foundation for Indian Trails Public Library District.

Exhibit

The Ela Area Public Library is proud to be selected as one of only six libraries in Illinois chosen to host the traveling ALA exhibit "Frankenstein: Penetrating the Secrets of Nature." The six-week run of the exhibition will begin June 22 and end August 5. The exhibit, about 1000 square feet, encourages audiences to examine the intent of Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein." Honoring Asian Pacific Month


A Korea Times reporter visited Indian Trails Public Library District to learn about their Korean collection. Andrew Bae, owner of Bae Art Gallery whose focus is contemporary Asian artists, donated art related books.

Award

Elsie Martinez, Youth Services Associate at Zion-Benton Public Library, is the 2005 recipient of the Doyle Award from Reaching Forward. The award is given to a support staff member and pays all expenses for the ILA Annual Conference.

Grant

The Zion-Benton Public Library District is one of 15 libraries in the U.S. to receive a MetLife Reading America grant. The library will provide an 8-week discussion series "From Immigrants to Citizens: an Intergenerational Dialogue Among Latinos." The participants will be Hispanic adult and teens. The program will be held in the fall of 2005.

New Board of Trustees President

Tom Rich has been elected president of the 2005-2006 Board of Trustees for Zion-Benton Public Library District . He is the Support Services Coordinator at the Warren-Newport Public Library.

New ISLMA Board Member

Randee Hudson, Millburn Community Consolidated School District 24, has been elected to the new Illinois School Library Media Association voting board.
