SKOKIE PUBLIC LIBRARY – 2009 Library of the Year

For an extraordinary commitment to serving a most diverse community with the highest level of creativity and responsiveness. The library’s targeted planning, widespread and strong community partnerships, and dedicated staff have provided Skokie with a level of service that serves as a model for all libraries. The library is deeply rooted in the fabric of the community, overflowing with activity within and outside the building. Libraries and library systems at the local, state, and national level have benefited from the Skokie Public Library’s long-standing commitment to cooperative projects. Bestowed in 2008 with the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, we rejoice that the whole nation now celebrates with us to honor this multi-hued gem of a library.
