Laura Beltchenko – 2009 Advocate of the Year

For her tireless advocacy for the libraries and learners of the Wauconda Community Unit School District 118. The district’s library media specialists recognize that Ms. Beltchenko’s dedication is a unique treasure, and is the reason their libraries have the resources needed to provide the level of support all students deserve, but rarely receive. She keeps her eye on the funding prize, obtaining the grants and budget allocations necessary for librarians to attend to the business of teaching. Ms. Beltchenko has been instrumental in building a strong relationship with the Wauconda Public Library, expanding horizons for the whole community. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but now we know this means a village plus a dynamic assistant superintendent.
