Awards Home » Awards » Past WinnersWinnersZION-BENTON TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY – 2009 Innovation Award For the expansive “Read, Write, Achieve” project, which brilliantly demonstrated how creativity and targeted partnerships can drive improved literacy across a community. The project inspired both reluctant and active readers, and serves as a best practice for both school and public libraries. The project exploded the definition of literacy, with programs that focused on jazz, technology, the environment, and of course, the library. The boundaries of the project stretched from the high school to the public library; the police station, a hospital, and on to colleges and universities, bringing back former students to share their success stories. When over 200 students vie for 40 spots on the youth advisory board created as part of the project, you know the Zion-Benton Township High School Library project has hit pay dirt.
