Mary Vogel - 2008 Special Library Staff Member of the Year

For her tireless dedication to bringing rare books of botanical beauty to flora fans of the North. When the Chicago Botanic Garden obtained 2,500 extraordinary historical tomes from the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, it was up to Mary to get each and every piece cataloged. She worked long days and weekends to meet the terms of the National Endowment for the Humanities grant that supported the project. As the deadline clock ticked louder, Mary knew help was needed. As a respected veteran cataloger, she was able to rally other professionals to volunteer their time to complete the cataloging. Thanks to Mary’s leadership, a whole new world of beauty has blossomed for our own corner of library paradise.
