The North Suburban Library System
has been named one of "Chicago's 101 Best & Brightest Companies
to Work For" in 2005. This award was created by the National Association
for Business Resources (NABR) to recognize innovative human resource
best practices and tools for constant improvement demonstrated by the
top companies in the area.
"To put it simply, to do the
best work, we have to hire the best people and then take good care of
them," said Sarah Long, director of the North Suburban Library System.
"Of course we are already starting with the "best and brightest" to
begin with - librarians and other professionals committed to supporting
libraries."
The companies honored this year
represent the leading edge in human resources practices in industries
as diverse as the automotive, banking, insurance, hospitality, communications
and non-profit.
"We are excited to honor our
inaugural winners of the Best & Brightest Companies to Work For
in the Chicagoland area," said Jennifer Kluge, President of the NABR.
"These companies place an extremely high value on their employees and
have proved to be innovative when it comes to demonstrating their commitment
to their team members."
The winners are selected based
on the following criteria: diversity and multi-culturalism, work-life
balance, communication, compensation and benefits, employee education
and development, recruitment and selection, employee engagement and
commitment, recognition and retention, and community initiatives.
Headquartered in Wheeling, the
North Suburban Library System ( www.nsls.info
) is an organization of 650 public, academic, school and special
libraries in the north suburban area of Cook County and communities
in Kane, Lake and McHenry counties. It is one of nine multitype library
systems in Illinois, funded through the Illinois State Library, a division
