The North Suburban Library System
(NSLS) didn't spend a penny on postage when the organization's FY 2002
annual report was distributed at the beginning of December. The free
postage came with the delivery service. This year's annual report is
only available online and was delivered to member library staff and
trustees and partnering agencies via e-mail.
Macromedia Flash was used as
the architecture for the annual report. Statistics show that more than
97% of browsers are able to view this technology, and it is anticipated
that most people will view this at the library or in their workplace.
The report can be viewed at www.nsls.info/about/annual_report.html.
"2002 was the year we consciously
went "E" or electronic," says NSLS Director Sarah Long,. "Our member
libraries have let us know that they want more services and information
available to them 24/7. Going E makes that happen. Another plus is that
we get to save a few trees along the way."
The annual report was also announced
in the System's weekly e-newsletter, nsls.info, which was launched in
March. nsls.info is delivered every Friday to over 2000 member
library staff and trustees, as well as outside organizations and individuals.
In addition to short, time-sensitive articles on NSLS and library industry
news, the newsletter includes class and meeting announcements and job
openings. To read a current or archived issue or to subscribe, visit
