Jesse White and Tumblers Join Library System Celebration

Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White will lead the applause when the winners of the 2001 North Suburban Library System Membership Awards are honored at the annual banquet on March 8 in Schaumburg. The Jesse White Tumbling Team will provide the high-flying acrobatics celebrating the accomplishments of the ten award winners being recognized for exceptional contributions to library service, library advocacy and innovative partnerships.

In addition to NSLS member libraries and staff, State Representative Karen May (District 60) will be honored as Legislator of the Year. “Representative May has come forward with a number of inventive outlets for information-sharing that have proven to be extremely popular and effective,” says Sarah Long, director of the North Suburban Library System. “She supports libraries with an open ear and a caring heart.”

Also to be honored at the NSLS Annual Banquet are:

Library of the Year: Morton Grove Public Library, MORTON GROVE.

Academic Library Staff Member: Dr. Jack Weiss, Dean of Academic Development, Elgin Community College, ELGIN.

Public Library Staff Member: Bruce Brigell, Coordinator of Information Services, Skokie Public Library, SKOKIE.

School Library Staff Member: Randee Hudson, Library Media Specialist, Millburn School, WADSWORTH.

Special Library Staff Member: Lori DeFiore, Librarian, ComEd / The Power House, ZION.

Trustee of the Year: Don Peters, Crystal Lake Public Library, CRYSTAL LAKE.

Volunteer of the Year: Rosa Kuhn, Indian Trails Public Library District, WHEELING.

Innovation Award: Park Ridge Public Library, PARK RIDGE

Community Advocate: Barbara Kemmis, Director of Library Services, Donors Forum of Chicago, CHICAGO.

Nominations for the awards were submitted by library staff and trustees and the winners were selected by a panel of NSLS member libraries. The March 8th banquet will take place at the Marriott Schaumburg at 6:00 p.m. For more information on the banquet and awards, visit www.nsls.info/banquet.
