Library and Community Leaders Honored by Library System

In recognition of exceptional contributions to library service, library advocacy efforts and innovative partnerships, the North Suburban Library System (NSLS) honored the winners of its 2007 Membership Awards on Friday, March 16 at the Cotillion Banquets in Palatine.

The WAUKEGAN PUBLIC LIBRARY was recognized as Library of the Year. “The adventurous endeavors of the Waukegan Public Library in the past year have benefited communities near and far,” said Sarah Long, NSLS director. “The library’s efforts demonstrate the power of creativity, partnerships, and keeping an open eye and ear to those you serve.”

Eleven more award winners were honored at the NSLS Membership Awards Banquet:

 

Innovation Award: Beach Park Middle School, BEACH PARK

Academic Library Staff Member: Jo Beckwith, Reference Librarian, College of Lake County, GRAYSLAKE

Public Library Staff Member: Katie Olsen, Information Technology Librarian, Cook Memorial Public Library District, LIBERTYVILLE

School Library Staff Member: Anne Shimojima, IMC Teacher, Braeside School, HIGHLAND PARK

Special Library Staff Member: Nan Buckardt, Environmental Education Manager, Lake County Forest Preserve, Ryerson Nature Center, DEERFIELD

 

Legislator of the Year: State Representative KATHY RYG, 59th District

 

Trustee of the Year: Barbara Johnson, Ela Area Public Library District, LAKE ZURICH

Volunteer of the Year: Joseph Dickson, Elk Grove Public Library, ELK GROVE VILLAGE

 

Community Advocate: Chicago Wolves, for the Read to Succeed Project

Lifetime Achievement Award: Charlotte Kott, Cary Area Public Library District, CARY

Lifetime Achievement Award: Debby Miller, SCHAUMBURG

Staff and trustees of NSLS member libraries submitted award nominations and chose the winners through online voting.
