RAILS Holidays and Emergency Closings

All RAILS offices are closed, and no system deliveries are made, on the following observed holidays:

• Independence Day (Wednesday July 4, 2012)
• Labor Day (Monday September 3, 2012)
• Thanksgiving (Thursday November 22, 2012)
• Christmas Eve (Monday December 24, 2012)
• Christmas Day (Tuesday December 25, 2012)
• New Year’s Eve (Monday December 31, 2012)
• New Year’s Day (Tuesday January 1, 2013)
• Memorial Day (Monday May 27, 2013)

RAILS' decisions to close buildings due to weather conditions will be based on school district closings in each of RAILS' seven locations. If the school district in the location is closed, the RAILS building will also be closed. If a RAILS building is closed, delivery service will not operate.

The following is a list of RAILS locations and the corresponding school district:

• Burr Ridge: Announcement by the Downers Grove Grade School District #58
• Coal Valley: Announcement by the Moline School District #40
• East Peoria: Announcement by the East Peoria High School District #309
• Geneva: Announcement by the St. Charles School District #303
• Rockford: Announcement by the Rockford Public School District #205
• Shorewood: Announcement by the Joliet Public School District #86
• Wheeling: Announcement by the Township High School District #214

In bad weather conditions, RAILS members can check the school district website for their area (links are listed above) to determine whether a RAILS building will be open or closed. RAILS staff will make every effort to post this information on the RAILS website as soon as possible.

In the case of Delivery services, if a RAILS building is open, it will be the decision of the Delivery Manager at each RAILS location to decide if any routes at their location will be cancelled due to weather conditions. The primary factor in deciding whether a route is cancelled is the safety of RAILS Delivery Drivers. RAILS will contact all libraries affected by delivery route cancellations as soon as possible.
